DEI Training Requirements for Insurance Agents
In the insurance industry, clients come from all different backgrounds and identities. Serving their needs is often a challenge when each client has different desires, goals, and priorities. Insurance producers overcome this challenge by seeking professional growth, gaining relevant knowledge, and learning new skills.
There are so many resources available that provide insurance industry and product-specific knowledge, but what about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training? Several other industries already mandate or offer DEI education to their workforce. Yet, until recently, this type of training—specifically tailored to the duties of a licensed insurance agent—was not required or widely available.
Now, the insurance industry is taking action on diversity and inclusion. In New York, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) released new CE requirements for all New York licensees renewing on or after 4/1/2022. These requirements include 1 hour of diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias instruction.
How can I meet the DEI Continuing Education Requirements?
In response, A.D. Banker is pleased to announce a new Diversity, Inclusion, and Bias Elimination 1-hour webinar. This topic is so important that we will be making it available for licensees nationally for continuing education credit, once approved by each state.
To be notified when this webinar is available in your state, sign up for an A.D. Banker account and opt-in to our email list.
The webinar officially launches on February, 21, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM CST. For additional dates, you can browse our insurance continuing education webinar schedule.
This webinar is essential for all producers serving clients in a growingly diverse marketplace. It will equip you with knowledge on creating inclusive environments, uplifting the unique and diverse qualities of those around us, and identifying and eliminating our biases. When everyone is equally appreciated and valued, we can be more creative, productive, and effectively serve clients from all backgrounds.
Will DEI training be required by other states?
New York’s DFS is not the only department with an increased focus on diversity and inclusion. Many other organizations and state departments across the country have also created DEI task forces, conferences, and implemented programs to encourage a more diverse insurance workforce. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is committed within its own organization, as well as with its committees and task force group efforts, to drive change and promote accountability in the insurance workplace and industry.
As the issue of diversity and inclusion rises with prevalence in the insurance industry, it is important for producers to stay educated and informed on this topic. Our webinar covers some of the current initiatives in the industry, and also provides you with additional resources you can use for education and professional development.
Remember: Diversity, inclusion, and bias elimination training is a lifelong journey. Everyone has room to grow and improve. Whether you are getting started on your journey, or furthering your education, this webinar will provide you with useful information, training strategies, and knowledge you need to serve a diverse population.
